Finnish Jewellery Art Association is organizing a member’s exhibition in June in Lappeenranta during 8th international jewellery triennal KORU8. The satellite exhibition is located in Täky Gallery in beautiful old fortress area and it showcases works from 27 Finnish contemporary jewellery artists and a total of 45 works. One of my small wearable wall pieces from the ‘Unknown Species – Golden Forest’ series in displayed in the exhibition.
The exhibition has been curated by jewellery artists Elina Honkanen and Tiina Rajakallio, who describe the exhibition as follows:
The works in the exhibition highlight a strong sense of materiality, as well as the mastery and appreciation of a wide range of craft skills and techniques. Through these works, jewellery emerges as a highly multidimensional and meaningful object. Many of the pieces depict personal experiences that are connected to the present day.
A number of recurring themes and threads emerged from the selection, including nature and history. Nature is present not only as a romantic and personal source of inspiration or through the materials used in the works, but also as a reflection of concern for the current state of the world. History, memories, and the passage of time are evident both in the nostalgic undertones of the themes and in materials that carry traces of lives already lived.
